From the 4th of February to 30th of April 2019, the Italian Residence in Tirana welcomes the exhibition of”L’Eterno Femminino”-Representation of the Albanian woman from the twentieth century to the present day. ”
Curated by Artan Shabani, the exhibition brings a selection of works from Albanian artists, from the twentieth century to the present, that have portrayed the feminine figure.
The exhibition “L’eterno femminino” (The Eternal Feminine) brings together artists of different generations, from the period of the Albanian ‘19s, the stage of self-isolation, to the contemporary expressions of our days (2019).
The woman’s image is a continuation of all visual art, created by both genres of artists. The woman remains among the most treated subjects in her roles in society and in their symbolic meanings. The exhibition is part of the wider project that the Italian Embassy in Tirana is undertaking to promote gender equality and fight against all forms of discrimination and violence against women.
In this context, during the entire period in which the exhibition will remain open, at the Residence of Italy will be held open meetings with scholars, artists and representatives of civil society to treat in the historical, social and artistic aspect the role of women in the Albanian society.
“After the exhibition with artists who have completed studies in Italy, this time we thought we would propose a topic that would enable research in the interior of an essential element of Albanian society, such as female figures,” said Italian Ambassador Alberto Cutillo.
“Following the OSCE Presidency, this year Italy is a member of the United Nations Human Rights Council for the two-year period 2019-2021, and among our priorities is the protection of women’s rights.
This priority is articulated in strengthening the rights of women and girls in combating all forms of violence against them, in engaging the disappearance of practices still in use in some of the countries of the world, such as genital mutilation, forced marriages.
So, we thought that the in-depth knowledge of the woman’s topic could be not only an artistic contribution, but also a reflection opportunity for the situation of women in the world and especially in Albania “, emphasizes the ambassador.
The exhibition will be open to the public every Thursday, starting February 7th, from 15.30 to 17.30, just by booking a visit to iictirana@esteri.it.
On February 14th, besides the visit, at 16.00, it will be possible to participate in the discussion between Artan Shabanit, Suzana Varvarica and two women artists whose works are part of the exhibition, on “what are the challenges of women in art sector in Albania”.
