To the local authorities of the Adriatic Ionian Euroregion, the European integration of candidate countries of the region first passes through concrete projects that will create the necessary links between the regions.
Tirana-Dubrovnik highway project is on the center of the agenda presented in Brussels by local authorities, members of the Adriatic Ionian Euroregion, aiming at strengthening cooperation between the regions of the area in the fields of tourism, protection of cultural heritage, environment, fisheries and infrastructure.
The Adriatic Ionian Euroregion is the first international association, established on 30th of June 2006 in Pula (Croatia), was the first international network to request the support of the European Union and solicit to the EU a strategy for regions in the Adriatic-Ionian area (EUSAIR) in 2014.
“Macro- regionalism is a European intuition of territorial collectivities emerged as an urgent need of the emergencies of the ‘90s. The Adriatic Ionian Euroregion is the first region that has stand out for its growth. It’s the organism of the elaboration of projects and promotion of their implementation. In these ten years, we can say that we have managed to establish a new culture for the blue sea, a new culture of the land-sea interconnectivity, of tourism and sustainable environment, “said Mr. Luciano D’Alfonso, Vice President of the Adriatic Ionian Euroregion.
“The presidency of the Adriatic Ionian Euroregion has launched its support for Tirana-Dubrovnik highway project. This is a very strong signal of the will of developing infrastructure between our regions and make our citizens move freely, to exchange experiences not only in terms of infrastructure but also in terms of tourism, agro-tourism, agriculture, knowledge and university studies, connecting our chambers of commerce” said Mr. Aldrin Dalipi, Vice President of the Adriatic Ionian Euroregion.
The local authorities of the Adriatic Ionian Euroregion also aim at the creation of some small airports in the Adriatic Ionian region. Euroregion intends to play an active role in coordinating the implementation of the EU strategy for the Adriatic Ionian Region.
