The President of the Regional Council of Tirana, Mr. Aldrin Dalipi, held a meeting today with Mr. Peter Clavelle, the Director of the PLGP – (Planning and Local Governance Project) of USAID in Albania.
During the meeting, Mr. Dalipi expressed his gratitude and thanked Mr. Clavelle for the support given to local government reform, and discussed the active involvement of the local government units and associations in further development of the decentralization processes.
Mr. Clavelle informed Mr. Dalipi, also President of the Association of Albanian Regional Councils, regarding the agenda of USAID / PLGP about the development of a draft law on local government finances in Albania. Mr. Dalipi said that the discussion and consultation process related to draft law of local government finances should be open and inclusive to all interested stakeholders and institutions.
This process needs to be accompanied by capacities building programs of local government officials on issues related to the comprehension and application of new organic law for local government and the decentralization process, throughout all the timeline of the finalization of this process.
During the meeting, Mr. Dalipi, thanked Mr. Clavelle for the pilot project with the Municipality of Tirana, which will enable the modernization of UKT and 24/7 drinking water supply for the residents of Tirana.
At the end of the meeting, Mr. Dalip gave to Mr. Clavelle the symbol of Tirana Region, as a sign of gratitude to his and USAID/PLGP contribution in Albania.
